24th May 2010
ESC WEEK, ESC WEEK, ESC WEEK! Let’s take a break from the excitement of looming semi-final one for some news about Junior Eurovision 2010!
In November all the delegations will be descending on Minsk, Belarus… but just how many countries will be there? Esckaz, coming to you live from Oslo, has some rather exciting news. And guess what, busy as they are with Eurovision, we get to tell you all first!
According to esckaz, THREE new countries have subscribed to JESC for 2010, all three being new to the contest! Unfortunately this indicates no Lithuania, who must lack the finance (as does Bosnia). The sources say – one of the three is a Western country, one broadcaster has never entered JESC or ESC before, and one is a very tentative entry (likely Moldova). Look out for Hungary being one of the three. Azerbaijan is apparently so intimidated by the success of Armenia in the competition that they refused entry so as not to risk losing to them. Shame that.
We must remember, the countries could still pull out (until June 14th), as happened in 2008. For now though, celebrate JESC lovers, and hope Lithuania can find a sponsor!
The hosts are looking to be Denis Kuryan and Olga Barabanschikova (tennis player), after Maria Isabel’s management rejected the offer for her to host. Kseniya Sitnik’s English skills are not sufficient for the job apparently.
Coming up this weekend is the Russian national final, so more on that later (but I will say, they are rushing to choose a new contestant, after realizing that Katya Ryabova cannot in fact, enter again).

According to Natalia Nikitina, press for NTU, this year they are focusing on sending a childish, fun song. "The child has to remain a child and should not rush to mature." The finalists are:

Terrible news, worse than my mounting pile of neglected schoolwork! Cyprus has dropped out of Junior Eurovision. That is another original country down, only Malta, The Netherlands, Belgium, Belarus, Macedonia, Romania and potentially Sweden (although they skipped 2008). The news was confirmed to esckaz by the Cypriot delegation today.
Moldova will not be entering in 2010 due to high participation costs, they did want to enter.

4th May 2010
The 2008 competitors are having a lot of success two years on. Charis Savva (Cyprus 2008) competed in "Get on Stage" and Eglė Jurgaitytė on "Choir Wars [Choru Karai]". Now, Bobby Andonov who represented Macedonia, is appearing in Australia's Got Talent (hosted by Danni Minogue, Kyle Sandilands and Brian McFadden). Bobby sang Hallelujah, impressing all three judges and sailing through to the next round. Currently it's still auditions in Australia but I will keep you all posted. Victoria Petrik who represented Ukraine is also on Got Talent, the Ukrainian version! She is appearing with her sister Nastya. They are also through, and Victoria is looking a lot older now! |

Belarus has selected their national finalists for 2010, and as the host country we can be assured it will be a good entry! It works like that, honestly!

12th April 2010
According to the Belarusian Telegraph Agency, the possible candidates to host JESC 2010 are Denis Kuryan (TV-presenter and author of the Belarus JESC diaries in 2009) and, in what will excite you all, Maria Isabel, the winner of JESC 2004! Alexander Martynenko (the head of the Belarussian delegation and man in charge of this years Junior Eurovision), said -
"It is not the final decision yet, but the show in Minsk may be hosted by several pairs of presenters. Amon g the candidates are renowned First TV Channel presenter Denis Kuryan and Maria Isabel". He has not ruled out that the entertainment program and contest slogan may be altered.
Instead of partnering with UNICEF in 2010 Junior Eurovision will aim to raise awareness of childhood disabilities and televoting funds will go towards such an organisation.
