CONGRATULATIONS TO RALF FROM THE NETHERLANDS!

 Ralf mackenbach wins JESC

The Netherlands have had their first win in a Eurovision in over 30 years! With Clack Clack, Ralf managed victory! Already massivly popular in Holland, the show should become more so now! Belgium, the favourite, came 4th after a lacklustre performance so congrats to her! Russia/Armenia tied for 2nd, they were my personal predicted winners. Thank god for juries? Everyone did well though, every single country, I was surprised. And the stage actually looked really good and colourful. On the live stream everyone was saying "vote Netherlands" but I did not predict their win.

Results:

 1 - Netherlands - 121 pts
 2 - Russia - 116 pts
 3 - Armenia - 116 pts
 4 - Belgium - 113 pts
 5 - Ukraine - 89 pts
 6 - Sweden - 68 pts
 7 - Georgia - 68 pts
 8 - Malta - 55 pts
 9 - Belarus - 48 pts
 10 - Serbia - 34 pts
 11 - Cyprus - 32 pts
 12 - Macedonia - 31 pts
 13 - Romania - 19 pts

EUROWEEK '09 - JESC DAY!

ralf and ioana

(the Romanian girls like Ralf)

It's finally the 21st! All the contestants are in their final day in Kiev. They have been on a tour, in very overcast weather. Then they will get ready for the big performance! All interval acts have rehearsed, everything is looking good. We have a colour co-ordinated audience on stage (is that instead of lighting or something..). Ukraine have done a good job on some things (Live streaming all week, kids activites..) and a poor job on others (stage, press access, interval acts).

yuriy demidovichYuriy Demidovich from Belarus has broken his finger on the stage, and will have to hold the microphone differently, but he is ok and in good spirits! He had his birthday and all participants celebrated at the Eurodisco.

Bzikebi
will not be performing in Kiev, they will not even be there. They are too busy and don't want to risk the flu. Disappointing indeed. Hopefully Victoria Petrik (we can only wish for Ilona) hands the trophy..

Luara
from Armenia has changed her costume to include a yellow tshirt and white jacket. It is dreadful, not soccer at all.

The commentator when the children parade in at the start is virtually incomprehensible. Ani Lorak is marginally better, but still.. these are not the best hosts. Ani makes up for it with Shady Lady though!

EUROWEEK '09 - DAY 5!

It's only two days until the JESC now, and the tension is building! Today the latter 6 acts have been rehearsing, I was lucky enough to catch the Ukrainians waiting to go on stage earlier.. some interesting vocal warm ups coming from there. Andranik was sitting in his wagon chewing a piece of straw looking utterly relaxed, not nervous at all. The stage is looking a lot better, you can see that with audience everywhere the atmosphere should be full of excitement! The stage will hold children told specially to cheer and clap too.

Our JESC forum is full of live updates about what is happening in Kiev, as we have members from Europe, North America, Australia.. all around the world! So hop on over to the forum, join up, and join us! (click here) :D

More coutries are wearing costume now, with Malta appearing in rehearsal sporting a similiar costume to the national final, with the addition of their mini slide/playground. Laura's is exactly the same as the national final, but it needed no changes really.

Ani Lorak had her rehearsals today, she will be singing Shady Lady and I'm Alive. She has many dancers on stage with her and it looks nearly as impressive as in Belgrade. It will be a spectacle for sure, I cannot wait! So far she is miming, but shall sing live in the actual JESC.

The kids after this must be ready for the dress rehearsal, as 50% of their points will come from the jury, who judge not the JESC but the dress rehearsal. Hopefully Mimmi's throat improves! Below are some pictures!

EUROWEEK '09 - Day 4!

It's around 2pm in Kiev right now (if I'm getting my timezones correct!). Ioana and the girls from Romania are going through their routine on stage right now. They've done several run throughs, each time the vocals seem extremely good. The cardboard cutouts make the act a bit more interesting, and they have the same outfits as the national selection. The Serbians are warming up on the piano, and have now gone backstage to wait for their turn to rehearse. They have what could be their final costumes on, and are having their hair/makeup touched up. Anica looks very confident. The Georgians are in their dressing room, but have just shut the curtain so no one can see in. The cello player is sitting with the coaches in the tv room, wearing normal clothes.

Today Sweden, Russia, Armenia, Romania, Serbia and Georgia are having their 2nd rehearsals at the Palace of Sports, while everyone else is out skating and sightseeing in Ukraine. Mimmi only sang parts of her song as she is feeling sick with a sore throat.

Laura has said:

Hello, Nelle and everyone from my class! I am sitting here with my dancers. Leandra, Danisha? Jaro, Glenn. Yes, that's who they are. Today we have done a stroll in actually a .."BOKRIJK!?" but actually in Kiev, we have baked a potty ((potteke xD))there. Allé it wasn't with a .. turn but just made with the hand. We have done the rehearsal, that was also really nice. We have done it 6 times or something. I think they liked it too(points at dancers) And yes I liked it too. And soon I'll go and eat something with my parents or go out or something. And yesterday there was a party, opening party of Junior Eurosong. Junior Eurovision Song actually. The first minister was there, it was really nice. Everyone had to sing their own song. And yes I liked it very much. There were also people that did something with bubbles, and that was really nice.. also pretty funny actually. And yes it was really nice."

and

"We have done today.. a lot of things actually, in the morning we went shopping and we have also bought souvenirs for my dancers, in the afternoon we've eaten McDonalds, that was really delicious. We went to the hotel for a few moments afterwards, ((The cutest sentence she ever said comes now:))I have done little buns in my hair again and stuff and changed clothes. (Ik heb terug dotjes gedaan in m'n haar enzo en and're kleren aan gedaan.)Then we went to here where it's all going to happen Saturday, and here we recorded a postcard. That's actually something like something they are going to play before your song. And you have to say something in English like who you are and what your song is called, and untill now it was all fun. Yeah in the beginning I say yeah something in Ukrainian actually.. and yeah. that's really nice. Dobre vece.. Europe then.. That means good evening Europe actually. Da or Dak .. it's actually the same but.. If you say Da it's really yes and if you say Dak it's more yeah. If you... no means nyet."

Ukraine's rehearsal was vocally fine, although Andranik had some problems with his microphone headset. Energetic performance from the dancers. Camera work could really be much better. Below are pictures and videos.

The rehearsals are continuing, so far Russia, Sweden and Armenia have rehearsed, with Romania doing so as we speak. The Armenian coach stopped them several times to adjust various aspects of the performance, but Luara is looking pretty strong with improved vocals and her dancers are very good. The Romanians already have a similar costume to the national final. Everyone else is not wearing anything like a costume. The Armenians all have matching sneakers. Sweden has backing vocalists now but they are rendered rather pointless. Alexander Rybak and Katya have released a promo video in Russian, supporting, not his native Belarus but Russia.
