nicole azzopardi

4th September 2010

Tonight Malta held their final, and the winner was Nicole Azzopardi with "Knock Knock! Boom Boom!". It is the very first song to ever be sung partly in Maltese in the Junior Eurovision and the first song in Maltese in any Eurovision contest since 1972's "L-imħabba". If Nicole wins in Minsk, will that see a revival of Maltese in the contest? Let us hope so!

nicole azzopardi

Nicole entered Junior Song for Europe for the first time in 2007 with "Life is a Playground", which she wrote with her brother Brenton. In 2008 she entered two songs - Once ‘Upon a Time’ and ‘Good Times’. In 2009 she again entered, coming 5th with the song 'Fun, Fun, Fun'. And now in 2010, she finally has won the ticket to JESC.

nicole azzopardi knock knock boom boomShe has also taken part in many other contests in Europe, such as the long-running Zecchino D’Oro where she sang sang La Dottoressa Lulu’ in 2006. When she was 7 she came 2nd in the Verdinote festival singing Sorridi. Nevena Bozovic who represented Serbia in 2007 has also won this contest. In 2005 Nicole placed 1st in Romania in the international youth festival ‘Ti Amo’ with the song ‘Sono Troppo Birichina’ and she placed a joined 1st in the ‘Tralcio D’Oro’ an international festival held in Italy with the sweet song ‘Che Frana’. So I think there is a high possibility we can say Nicole is fluent in Italian.

In Maltese contest Fl-Ghaqda l-Melodija’ she placed 3rd in 2004 with the song ‘Mal-Muzika Flimkien’, Overall Winner (Children, Adolescents and Adults sections) and Best Presentation and Choreography in 2005 with the song ‘Anglu Bellu’ and 2nd place in 2006 with the colourful song ‘Il-Magija Tat-Tfulija’.

In 2007 Nicole made it to the finals of ‘L-Ghanja tal-Poplu’ where she placed 3rd in the section for youth besides winning the best interpretation with a Latin song called ‘Evviva t-Tfal’.  Another success is her participation in the song festival ‘L-Ghanja Tal-Maltin’ in July 2008.  Nicole placed 1st in section and won the best interpretation over all the 4 sections in the festival when she performed the song ‘Fit-Triq Tan-Nofs’.  Other placements include 1st at the Santa Lucija Festival in 2005 and again 1st at the Malta Drydocks Festival in 2006.

3rd September 2010

The start of September not only brings the true kick off of the national final season (Armenia semi 2 airing as we speak), but it brings the long, long awaited new song of my favourite sister trio (ever so slightly ahead of the Sanden sisters) - Lisa, Amy and Shelley! From Adem in, Adem uit in 2007, they're now 16 years old with a much more mature style! Lacking the colour and retro-ness of their past videos, this new song is great anyway, it's funky and unique! Fout Ventje (Wrong bloke)

August 18th 2010

Remember X!NK, who represented Belgium at the Junior Eurovision 2003? We had the chance to interview Jonas, the lead singer of the band about their experiences at the JESC and what they have been up to since then!

- Hi Jonas! First let’s start with the JESC, back in 2003. It was the very first Junior contest ever, what did you expect before the contest? Was it like you thought it would be?

I have no idea, I had no expectations I guess. It just was so pure and fun. We had a great time.

- Were you happy with your placing, Belgium’s best until 2009? How did you feel during the voting?

Yeah of course, It's a nice feeling that you're the Belgian best. The voting was nice, we didn't expect anything. We were just so glad that we were there and experiencing it all.

- Have you watched any Junior Eurovision contests since then, who has been your favourite?

I went to the Belgian junior eurovision contest in 2005. But my favorite one is of course the one in Copenhagen.

X!nk

- Who was your favourite in 2003 and were there any entries you did not like that much?

I do not remember that much about it. I think Bubu was very cool! (Romania?)

- Who did you guys make friends with the most in Copenhagen? Do you still talk to anyone?

Well, We were good friends with The Netherlands, Romania and Croatia! It's been a long time since we talked though.

- Overall was the Junior Eurovision a good experience for you?x!nk 2003

Yeah of course, it was a big experience. Everything we did with the band was because of it.

- What do you think of the JESC these days? The Netherlands won last year, do you think this was a good thing?

Don't know, I don't check it out anymore.

- What did you enjoy more, the Junior Eurovision in Denmark or the Eurosong for Kids contest in Belgium?

It was very different.. In Belgium was it really cool because we were all friends with the candidates. In Denmark was it all different but also very cool.

- Is X!NK still together? What did you guys do after JESC?

Yeah we are still a band, but we take things slow now. It's been a long time since we played together. After JESC we released 2 full albums and 8 singles. Busy but great times.

jonas muekens 2010- Are you in any other bands, what kind of music (if any) do you do now?

We all are in other bands now. Thomas & Niels play in The Crackups, Niels plays also in All Demons Have Distortion, I play in Get Off My Shoes and Philip plays also in 2 other bands but I do not know the name of them. It all is very different from what we did with xink. But we all enjoy it.

- Will you consider entering the adult Eurovision one day? Do you watch the Eurovision and if you do who did you want to win in 2010?

No, that will never happen. I'm pretty sure of it.

- Will you release any CDs in the future?

Maybe in few years. We'll see about that. Now we are focusing on our other bands.

For more information about X!NK you can view their biography here or visit their official site at www.xink.be.
